Welcome to the Agilent Service Support Software with the Agilent ESG E4438C 
Test package!

PLEASE READ THESE NOTES BEFORE RUNNING THE APPLICATION!

These notes are designed to help you understand characteristics
of this application and to inform you of any last minute
changes.

OVERVIEW

This is the Revision B.07.01 of test software for the Agilent ESG E4438C
RF Signal Generator series (ESG C family). This software includes a Test Executive 
(User Interface) and a package of Adjustments/Performance Tests that 
apply specifically to the Agilent ESG E4438C series. This software should be used
in conjunction with the Agilent ESG E4438C Calibration Guide.

GENERAL

Please be sure to install and configure the SICL I/O libraries 
that came with your GP-IB card before running the application.
Only Agilent Technologies GP-IB interface cards are supported at
this time.

The first time the application is run, the system administrator
needs to enter information about the test equipment available
at your site for this application.  This is done through the
File, Test Equipment menu items.  If this is not done, 
the software will not allow testing.  NOTE: If you are using
any power sensors, each must have a default GPIB address of -1.

If you get an error while running the application, first check 
for obvious problems such as equipment not connected, cables not
attached, equipment not turned on, etc.  Note any information
the error message gives you which may be useful to HP customer
support should you need their help.  Always try to duplicate the
error condition, and as a last resort, try rebooting your PC 
if the application hangs up.

PERFORMANCE TESTS


-- Power Level Accuracy--:

Power level measurements made at low power levels are very 
susceptable to errors caused by RF leakage into the measurement 
system. It is extremely important that the Device Under Test as 
well as all test equipment be isolated from stray RF signals as 
much as possible during these measurements.

ADJUSTMENTS

-- I/Q Impairment--:
This adjustment requires the RF Output is properly terminated. Connect
either a 10 dB attenuator or power sensor to the DUT RF Output for this
adjustment.

POWER METER SUBSTITUTION
The E4419B power meter used in this software only uses the A Input.
Therefore, an E4418B can be substituted without the need to change 
any software drivers.

-- I/Q Time Skew - Baseband and RF--:
These adjustments require firmware revision C.03.10 or higher.

	Added two adjustments for I/Q Time Skew Cal:

	  The tests calibrate the I/Q time skew (phase difference between
	  the I and Q channels) on the BB or RF I/Q Outputs for various setup
	  condtions.  The data is then stored in the instrument calibration
	  arrays for time skew.  The tests use an 8563E to make the required
	  measurements of the DUT I/Q baseband or RF Outputs.

	  Note: These adjustments require firmware revision C.03.10 or higher.

	Fixed the following defects:

	  1. Harmonics performance test (phar): Fixed datapack for 3 GHz model. 
	     Tried to check signal at too high a frequency.

	  2. Subharmonics(pshar): Fixed datapack for 3 GHz model. 
	     Incorrectly numbered datapoints.

	  3. Power Level Accuracy performance test (pla_vsa): Fixed problem with 
	     Step Attenuator Driver software driver. It was incorrectly 
	     setting pads for some 70 dB step attenuator models. This could 
	     also affect ESG B and ESG AP/DP software.
